Time For Tim Tebow To Turn The Page And Move On

Here’s a shocker … Tim Tebow really is human. It appears that New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow finally reached his breaking point once he found out last week that he wouldn’t be the one to replace Mark Sanchez as the starter against the San Diego Chargers yesterday. Tebow was passed over by head coach Rex Ryan for 3rd-string quarterback Greg McElroy and apparently it did not go over well with him. Reportedly Tebow was bothered by the move so much that he went to Ryan and asked not to be used in the Jets “wildcat” package against the Chargers. The Jets went with wide receiver Jeremy Kerley in place of Tebow, who was dressed to play however didn’t see any time on the field.

The Chargers defeated the Jets 27-17, however the issue once again whenever it comes to the Jets this season is that the more interesting news with them comes from off the field. Tebow’s one year with the Jets has arguably been a nightmare and both sides would be better off parting ways as soon as possible after the season. The Jets clearly had no faith in him being a quarterback for them, otherwise he’d be playing.

I don’t agree with Tebow asking not to be used in the “wildcat” against the Chargers if that’s indeed what happened. At the end of the day, you still have to do the job you are being paid to do. However, I clearly understand the frustration Tebow must be feeling these days. All this guy does is say the right things whenever pressed to answer questions that speak against his belief that he can be a good NFL quarterback. He still believes he can be a good and thought the opportunity finally presented itself when Ryan benched Sanchez.

The fact of the matter is that Tebow finally broke away from all of the politically correct comments he’s been giving whenever asked anything about his time with the Jets. He made it clear he’s not happy there and then he backed that up by apparently deciding he wanted no more parts of the gimmick role they put him in which produced absolutely nothing this season.

I hope Tebow gets what he wants and according to reports that appears to be a move to Jacksonville in 2013. He didn’t go about it the right way, however kudos to him finally confirming to us all that he’s actually human after all.

Another Jets Implosion … It’s Time For Change, Start At The Top.

The New York Jets continue to amaze us for all the wrong reasons. There is no shame in losing to the New England Patriots, that’s a pretty good football team. However the Jets didn’t just manage to lose to the Patriots, they were embarrassed on Thanksgiving night 49-19. The loss dropped their record to 4-7. This was a home game at MetLife Stadium on national television, in prime time. I prefer to just call it …

The MetLife Massacre

The Jets gave up 35 points in the second quarter … 35. However it’s never about what happens to the Jets, it’s how it happens. The Patriots scored 21 of those 35 points in 52 seconds. That’s three touchdowns  … on offense, defense, and special teams. The game was over at that point and most likely any realistic chance the Jets had at making the playoffs evaporated.

An argument can be made that the most recent implosion to happen to the Jets this season is a good thing for them. This team doesn’t need much else to happen to them to make it clear that some sort of change is needed.

If there is going to be change, then it has to start at the top. General manager Mike Tannebaum has done a lousy job assembling this team the last couple of seasons. He’s just as responsible for what’s wrong with starting quarterback Mark Sanchez as anyone else with that team. Tannebaum is a good numbers guy and if the Jets don’t want to fire him, they should seriously consider redefining his duties and bringing in someone else for player personnel.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan and General Manager Mike Tannebaum

If Tannebaum stays or goes is an interesting sub-plot to this mess, then another one is what happens with head coach Rex Ryan. It’s time to be realistic, Ryan has not looked anywhere near the type of head coach he was in his first two seasons with the Jets and I’m not talking about all the weight he’s recently lost either. He’s been humbled by the losing and the cocky swagger he once had has been replaced by blind optimism.

The case can be made that Ryan’s coaching has been adversely effected by everything that’s happened to this team over the last couple of years. He’s not a bad football coach, he’s just the coach of a bad football team that was poorly assembled by Tannebaum and it’s taken it’s toll. If the Jets completely tank the rest of the season, Ryan and his blind optimism could be shown the door right along with Tannebaum and that would be unfortunate.

Bringing in Tim Tebow and the handling of Sanchez has been a disaster in every sense of the word this year. The Jets have everything they’ve wanted this year in terms of publicity, it’s just had nothing to do with winning football games. Talk is cheap and in the case of the Jets it’s backfired on them.

This team needs improvement in every area, they can start at the top with the leaders.

Sloppy In Seattle: Time Running Out On The Season For Sanchez And The Jets.

The New York Jets dropped to 3-6 with a ugly 28-7 loss on the road to the Seattle Seahawks. Ugly is the best way to describe the way the season is going for the Jets.

It’s the same problems every week with this team and it starts at the quarterback position. Mark Sanchez doesn’t have much talent around him on offense, however the little bit of talent that is there can’t help if Sanchez can’t get them the football. 9 of 22 for 124 yards isn’t going to get it done in the NFL for a quarterback who’s been in the league as long as Sanchez, especially when there is no running game to fall back on. The Jets did a poor job of getting Sanchez more help on offense and they did him no favors with the addition of quarterback Tim Tebow to the team.

The Sanchez / Tebow idea has not worked out at all for this team. Sanchez clearly doesn’t like coming in and out of the game so he can make room for Tebow to predictably run the ball 2-3 yards up the middle of the field. The Jets talked all summer about how they planned on big things with Tebow and instead all they’ve shown us is that they just don’t know how to use him or he’s just here to keep the team in the headlines to hide the fact that they are a very bad football team.

Here is the unfortunate reality for the Jets. There just isn’t a whole lot that can be done at this point to turn their season around. This all isn’t the fault of Sanchez, he’s just part of the problem. Head coach Rex Ryan insists on staying with Sanchez as his quarterback, however at this point the Jets might as well get some bang for their buck in the headlines and just put Tebow in there as the starter.
